The fraternity of Bahay Capuchino experienced a day of grace and joyful fraternity with the visit of Bishop Paolo Martinelli, OFMCap, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, together with his secretary, Br. Darick D’ Souza, OFMCap.

The day began early at 6:30 AM, with the celebration of the Holy Mass in memory of St. Pius X, presided by Fr. Chito Bartolo, OFMCap, Parish Priest of St. Joseph Church in Abu Dhabi. The Mass was made more meaningful by the presence of the Brothers of Bahay Capuchino, who joined their prayers in thanksgiving for the gift of fraternity and mission. A simple breakfast followed as the brothers prepared the receiving area and refectory, ready to welcome their special guests.

At 10:45AM, Bishop Paolo arrived with Br. Darick, accompanied by Br. Chito and Br. Rex, along with Br. Jasper and Br. Garry. They were warmly received by Br. Edgar Martinez, OFMCap, Provincial Minister, and the rest of the fraternity. After some cheerful exchange of pleasantries, Bishop Paolo and Br. Edgar proceeded to the Provincial Office for a brief fraternal meeting, while some brothers lovingly prepared a simple lunch.

The meeting concluded with much joy and gratitude, leading to a shared meal that truly reflected the Capuchin spirit, simple, fraternal, and joy-filled. Shortly after, Bishop Paolo and Br. Darick bid their warm farewell, continuing their journey to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes to meet the wider community.

The afternoon was filled with visits to various chapels inside shopping malls, a joyful encounter with the faithful where work and worship meet. Later, the group also stopped by at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Mandaluyong, a Church beautifully nestled amid the towering buildings of the city, a quiet haven of prayer in the heart of urban life. After a full day of travel and pastoral presence, Bishop Paolo and Br. Darick stayed overnight at NSOLL to rest and prepare for the next day’s celebration. At 7:00AM, they would once again gather with the faithful for the Eucharistic Mass, this time in honor of the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a perfect way to conclude a day of grace, fraternal presence and mission.

This visit was more than just a pastoral encounter; it was a reminder of how fraternity and mission go hand in hand. Bishop Paolo’s presence brought encouragement and inspiration, reminding the brothers to live the Gospel with joy and to continue building a welcoming and praying community. Indeed, it was a day of renewed commitment to the mission of the Church.
