Inter-Franciscan Celebration of the Transitus: Rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks in honor of St. Francis.

Quezon City – On October 3, 2024, the inter-Franciscan community in the Philippines commemorated the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Mandaluyong City. This solemn event marked his passage from earthly life to eternal glory.

Fr. Christopher Dominic Lim, OFMConv, delivered a talk themed “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances: Emulating the Exemplary Life of St. Francis” reflecting on St. Francis’s life of prayer. Following this, students from Lourdes School presented the Transitus in a prayerful manner.

The Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Rev. Fr. Norman Gandia, emphasized the theme of “LIGHT”, translating it into Filipino as ‘Liwanag’ and ‘Magaan’. He concluded with an acronym for LIGHT: Lift people up, Ignite others, Give everything, Humble ourselves, and Take Jesus as our priority.

The evening concluded with an Agape, where the Franciscan family shared a joyful meal together. This celebration not only honored St. Francis’s legacy but also inspired participants to embrace his teachings in their daily lives.
