In keeping with the ancient tradition of the Church, prayerful formation, discernment, and dedication are essential steps before one is admitted to the ministries of reader and acolyte. Recently, our first-year Post-Novice Brothers were joyfully installed into these sacred ministries. Rev. Fr. Edgar S. Martinez, OFMCap., Provincial Minister, solemnly conferred upon them the ministries of Acolyte and Lector.
These ministries carry profound responsibilities. Our brothers are now entrusted with proclaiming the Word of God during liturgical assemblies—a vital role that calls for reverence and clarity. Beyond this, they assist the deacon and serve the priest, attending to the altar and supporting the sacred rituals, especially during the celebration of Holy Mass.
As the rite’s prayer beautifully expresses:
“Let us pray that they may be faithful to the work entrusted to them… Grant that as they meditate constantly on Your Word, they may grow in its wisdom and faithfully proclaim it to Your people.”
And as they receive the “vessel with bread for the celebration of the Eucharist,” may they be made “worthy of Your service at the table of the Lord and His Church.” Amen.
This moment marks not just a ceremony but a deepening of their commitment to serve God and His people with humility and devotion. May their journey inspire us all to embrace our own callings with faith and courage.
Witnessing these ministries reminds us that service in the Church is both a privilege and a responsibility. It’s a call to live out the Gospel actively—through listening, proclaiming, and serving.
