On February 2, 2025, we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, a significant occasion that invites us to reflect on our vocation to consecrated life. Most. Rev. Honesto Ongtioco, D.D. CBCP-ECMR Chairperson, in his opening message, emphasizes that our lives should mirror Jesus Christ’s perpetual “yes” to God’s will, serving as a beacon of light for the world.
This feast commemorates Mary and Joseph’s obedience as they brought Jesus to the temple, fulfilling Jewish law by offering Him back to God. The figures of Simeon and Anna exemplify faithfulness, prayer, and hope—qualities we aspire to embody in our lives of consecration. Our commitment is a total gift to the Lord, filled with joyful anticipation for His kingdom.
His Excellency gave Key Aspects of Consecrated Life:
• A Life of Faithfulness: In facing life’s challenges, we remain anchored in God’s love. Our faithfulness reflects our dedication to serving Him.
• A Life of Offering: Just as Mary and Joseph presented Jesus as a precious gift, we offer our lives to God. This act is not merely about renouncing worldly things but embracing true freedom that allows us to love God wholeheartedly. Each vow we profess signifies that God is enough, and fulfillment is found solely in Him.
• A Light for the World: As Jesus is the light of the world, we are called to reflect that light. Our witness carries immense power in illuminating society’s darkest corners.
• A Call to Joyful Hope: Our lives proclaim the Gospel daily. The joy we express serves as a reminder that God’s kingdom is near. We are invited to renew our commitment to trust and generosity while remaining faithful and hopeful.
Two sets of panels provided insights into various aspects of consecrated life. The first included Rev. Fr. Hirohito Bolo, CICM, who shared his mission experience in Brazil; Sr. Maria Paule, AMP, who discussed her work in justice, peace, and integrity of creation (JPIC) while addressing mining issues in Brooks Point; and Br. Edmundo Fernandez, FSC, who offered leadership perspectives from school administration.Br. Edmundo highlighted key takeaways:
• Self-Worth Beyond Roles: “I am not my role.” Your identity transcends your professional responsibilities.
• Decision-Making Framework: Consider if decisions benefit individuals, are life-giving, and stem from love.
• Leadership Sensitivity: Effective leadership involves making difficult choices while enhancing personal growth.
The second panel followed a Holy Mass led by His Excellency Archbishop Charles Brown D.D, Papal Nuncio to the Philippines together with Most Rev. Elias Ayuban, Jr. CMF, D.D. Bishop of Diocese of Cubao. Participants included Sr. Sonia Aldeguer, RSCJ; Sr. Rhea Fatima Novarro, RA; and Mr. Frederick Perez from Secular Institutes.
