Quezon City, Philippines – In a vibrant display of faith and brotherhood, the Capuchin Philippine Province commemorated the life and legacy of St. Bonaventure with a two-day celebration culminating on July 26th. Held at the Capuchin Retreat Center, the event was a harmonious blend of spiritual reflection and fraternal camaraderie.
A keynote address by Br. Ericson Pendoy, OFMCap., delved into the life and teachings of St. Bonaventure, whose 750th death anniversary is being observed this year. The renowned Franciscan theologian’s emphasis on wisdom, prayer, and love profoundly influenced the gathering.
The celebration reached its spiritual apex with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Br. Edgar Martinez, OFMCap. In his powerful homily, Br. Denver De Leon, OFMCap., challenged the friars to emulate St. Bonaventure’s spirit of selfless service and knowledge-sharing.
“St. Bonaventure’s example urges us to be beacons of God’s love in the world,” Br. Denver emphasized. “His dedication in sharing wisdom inspires us to spread the light of faith through our lives, work, and studies.”
As the Capuchins concluded their gathering, they renewed their commitment to live out the Franciscan charism. The celebration served as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of St. Bonaventure and the ongoing mission of the Capuchin Order to serve the Church and the world.
