The 49th Parochial Anniversary and Solemn Dedication

of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Pulo, Cabuyao, Laguna

A year before the Golden Jubilee of its erection as a parish, the community of St. Francis of Assisi, Barangay Pulo, Cabuyao, Laguna celebrated a milestone through the solemn dedication of the parish church held last September 10, 2019.  The momentous event was presided by his Excellency Most Reverend Buenaventura C. Famadico, bishop of the Diocese of San Pablo and assisted by Br. Eugenio Juanilo P. Lopez, OFMCap., Minister Provincial and Br. Jefferson E. Agustin, OFMCap., Parish Priest.   Serving as deacons were Brothers Jose Eduardo A. Mayo, OFMCap. and Anthony C. Almazan, OFMCap.  The liturgy was guided by Fr. Edsel Ramos, master of ceremonies from the Diocese of San Pablo.

Prior to the celebration, the parish, in coordination with the liturgical commission of the diocese, gave formation and instruction on the meaning and significance of the Rite of Dedication.  It involved the participation of the different organizations and local ecclesial communities in the parish.  A relevant development that happened in the course of the preparations is the change of the position of the lectern.  Before it was located behind the altar but was consequently moved towards its right side in accordance with the proper liturgical norms.

The Eucharistic celebration commenced at 5:00 pm.  In his homily, Bishop Famadico reflected on the deeper meaning of the rite as it encompasses not only the structure but more importantly, the faithful as the living Church.  The rite of dedication commenced after the homily with the Litany of the Saints; the placing of the relics of St. Francis of Assisi underneath the mensa; the anointing of the altar and the posts of the church with chrism oil; the placing of incense; the vesting of the altar with linens and the lighting of candles and the church.  These were carried out by the bishop and assisted by representatives for the lay faithful.  The liturgical actions went very smoothly and solemnly and truly invoked as deep sense of reverence among the faithful.  The celebration truly reflected the liturgical saying: “let the rites speak for itself.”  The liturgy of the Eucharist followed the conclusion of the dedication rite.

Towards the end of the celebration, Br. Jefferson E. Agustin expressed his gratitude for all who participated and united themselves in this momentous occasion.  Before the final blessing, Fr. Edsel Ramos declared the granting of plenary indulgence for all present in the celebration and also declared that the day of dedication is to be celebrated every year in the parish as a solemnity.  After the conclusion of the Mass, Bishop Famadico and the concelebrants proceeded to the entrance of the church for the blessing and unveiling of the commemorative marker of the dedication.

It has been a very memorable celebration in preparation for the Golden Jubilee of the parish next year. Joining the community in their jubilation are the Capuchin brothers coming from different fraternities – Bahay Capuchino, Our Lady of Lourdes and Sta. Teresita, QC; St. Francis of Assisi, Mandaluyong; Padre Pio, Lipa; St. Lawrence of Brindisi and St. Francis of Assisi/Ina ng Laging Saklolo, Tagaytay; San Isidro Labrador, Titay, Zamboanga-Sibugay and St. Francis of Assisi, Davila, Ilocos Norte.  Also present for this special occasion are the priests of the Diocese of San Pablo, Laguna.  After the Mass, all proceeded to share in the festive banquet held at the parish center.  May the Lord be praised for his loving kindness and may He continue to guide the community of St. Francis of Assisi in its mission as a parish and instrument of the Good News.
